Banners Do Work

I'm sure you have seen hundreds of spam e-mail claiming that e-mail marketing is king. Perhaps it is but, it is not the only form of marketing to consider. I always inform my clients that a good marketing plan uses more than one form of advertising. In terms of internet marketing, I always suggest an aggressive banner campaign as a supplement.

Internet marketing articles were quick to point out that banner advertising was not worth investing in. The Internet population was becoming numb to the constant visual assault by advertisers and were not really paying any attention to the ads. Also, banner ads cost a lot of money. For example, a typical 120x60 banner ad placed on a city online newspaper can cost between $250-$1000 per month. That can get expensive if you are not used to spending that kind of money on advertising but, consider that this online newspaper is getting millions of hits per week.

It may be hard to justify that kind of monthly advertising expenditure. This is what I suggest and it does work. Contact the owners of web sites via e-mail when you are surfing the web. Look for web sites that have their own niche and that your product or services might fit well as a value-added link. When you explain to your prospect that your product or service is something that their web clients are looking for, you probably will have no problems getting a free link on that web site to your web site..

There are two kinds of links, text and banner. Text links are fine but, they don't display your eye-catching brand or logo. Many guides and indices that have hundreds or even thousands of links won't want to populate their pages with graphics due to page load delays. Text links load extremely fast. Don't discount text links because even if you can't get your banner displayed at a different web site, getting a text link will help in your over-all popularity rating with search engines. If you can get a web owner to support having your banner on their web site it helps to have some banners in different sizes ready to be e-mailed to the web master. There are many sizes to consider. The largest being the long horizontal 460x60. Be prepared to have a place on your web site to accept banners or text links as a way to reciprocate. My suggestion is to have a resources page or a valuable links page.

Most web sites hosting accounts come with a statistics page. Statistics are derived from server logs and tell how many people are visiting your site and sometimes from where. This is a great way to see the success of your banner campaign In particular, I look for referring URLs. This will show hits that were a result from clicking on a banner or text link from other web sites.

At OneBrush.com we offer our clients free entry into our private network of rotating banners. These banners are seen every day on a variety of web sites.
