There are many other place to host database driven web sites that are comparable in price to GoDaddy and yet deliver higher speed and more memory. It is worth looking around the forums for Wordpress or Joomla. There is always good advice on hosting. Everyone has their bias. No web host is absolutely perfect but to me speed and security is what matters most.

I agree that Go Daddy is great for domain names. As confusing as their interface can be, I've found it is much better than many of the other domain registrars. I use Google Apps for my email and haven't had any issues yet, so I can't really speak to their web mail services. However, in the past I have looked at purchasing hosting from them and found them to be a little on the pricey side compared to other services. At one point I was using Media Temple which is not cheap ($20/month for shared hosting) but I was very happy with the load times. I'm currently using Page.ly for my newest website (Insidesocialmedia.tv) and I've been very pleased with everything so far. My favorite part is knowing they take care of all the back end support so I can focus on content. I do think Go Daddy has an opportunity to improve their situation and it would be nice if I could use them as a one stop shop for everything in the future (But I'll probably stick with Google for email since it comes with Docs and Calendar).

Great info and reminders of how important it is to protect our identity and passwords. Having been a victim of id theft (though not via the internet but burglary) it is really a pain to untangle. Also, be careful about labeling files on the computer or in file cabinet where you save or store your lists of passwords or credit card numbers. Come up with a name other than "passwords" or "vital financial records". When I was burglarized they took my paper files which had all the numbers and passwords as well as my PDA (which I had forgotten to take to work that day. It was very easy for them to find what they needed because I had labeled the files so well!

My husband is a small business owner, so I hear all of it. We're not talking about $10 per hour people here, we're talking about attorneys...professionals who have gone to school for 7 years and they're still NOT motivated to do more than required. I don't know if it's the generation (younger than 45/50), but the work ethic in this country is terrible. His employees come in at 8, take 1.5 for lunch, and are gone by 5...keep in mind that they are given financial incentives for bringing in business and for settling cases. One guy recently left because he was being "over worked"! They don't want to go the extra mile. I've heard this from many a small business owner. There are exceptions to the rule, however, in my opinion, until people feel that a job is really a gift and not a "right", this will continue. Sad to say but perhaps the recession is a good thing...maybe employees will once again be grateful for having a job.

I do not think you are being Harsh. However, I do feel that many company's reap what they sow. Because of the lack of loyalty companies have shown to its employees there is now a lack of productivity and loyality from the employee to the company. In addition to creating a test for prospective employees to take i would highly reccomend following up on their sources of reccomendations I would also contact former employers to find out how they performed while there. With respect to showing loyalty to the employee. Employers should offer incentives for business brought in by an employee either in the form of bonuses or additional time off. Employers should also take charge in getting their employees training on how to bring in business. not everyone is proficient in sales or in networking to increase name brand or product recognition. If you want better employees then train them to be better employees. If you treat them like a number or a pay check they will act like a paycheck.

With technical guidance frm Karl Knelson and SiteMechanix the Breslau Insurance & Benefits, Inc. agency now has over 60 websites. Many of these are dedicated client websites that share common library files of information. I feel we are only touching the surface of marketing and administrative uses of the web and look forward to working with Karl in the months and years ahead.

We have done as Karl suggested.... videos on one site, photos on another and we have started Facebook and looking into other social networking.

At the end of the day, we have seen our web site get more unique hits than ever. I think some of this is due to wordpress and the social networks.

We use yet another provider for our ecommerce. Thanks Karl for all your help and patience!!!! Mike
